Running Report 8th & 9th August

Well done to Louise - she led the Tuesday 7pm group last week - extremely well! I'm very grateful - especially as she's doing the same for me this week as I'm moving into our new home on Tuesday. Fast Track Beginners will be on Friday 19th at 8pm for the same reason.

It's the last RR10 this week - Hursley at 7:15pm. This is a 4-5mile off road run in the same series as the Itchen Valley one Louise did the other week. Pat, the fabulous coach from the main SRS group, does all of them at the speed of the gentlest runner - so there is guaranteed company and support at the back! I am intending to go this time. Directions are in this link.

Mon 7pm 6.17km in 41:52 505 calories
Mon 8pm 6.4km* 408 calories
Tue 7pm Some did 5km, some did 6km
Tue 8pm 3.78km in 32:41 218 calories

I haven't logged the time for Monday's 8pm run as there was a stitch issue! Thanks to the group for getting themselves back to the Hub - sorry I missed you at the end.

Fast Track Beginners
On Friday, we'll be:
  • Warming up
  • Running for 15 minutes
  • 1 minute walking break
  • Running for 15 minutes
  • Cool down
  • Stretching
Don't forget that we will take more breaks if required.

Running Reports for 2 weeks

I am rubbish - failed miserably to record our runs last week, so here's 2 weeks worth.
You lot, however, are brilliant. 13 of us did the Eastleigh 10K on Sunday - all of us finished & many did PBs. Dawn & Michelle were there too - Michelle as a Marshall and Dawn as photographer/bag carrier/glove retriever. Great running, fantastic support.
According to our virtual globe trot, the Eastleigh 10K took us through Vienna, past Bratislava and over the Hungarian border - 3 countries in 1 run! After tonight's runs, we're not too far from Budapest.
So, lots of runs to record - all numbers from my GPS:
21st March 7pm 5.1km in 30:54 417 cals
21st March 8pm 5.0km in 34:53 415 cals
22nd March 7pm 5.0km in 41:23 289 cals
22nd March 8pm 4.1km in 37:09 228 cals
Eastleigh 10K 10.0km 60:12 820 cals
28th March 7pm 6.0km in 41:49 483 cals
28th March 8pm 5.0km in 40:04 327 cals
29th March 7pm 5.4km in 43:43 347 cals
29th March 8pm 3.6km in 33:17 204 cals

Beginners Programme
This week we did 34 minutes with 4 walk breaks at 6, 13, 20 and 27 mins.
Next week (week 7), it will be 33 minutes with 3 walk breaks at 7, 16 and 25 minutes

This week's runs

Sorry for cancelling running on Tuesday - predictably, after I'd decided to not take the risk of running, the snow failed to stick and the pavement remained ice free. Still, there was a possibility of it being like today, so I still think I made the right call. I do have to err on the side of caution as it's a group activity.
Parkrun aren't sure if there will be a run on Saturday or not - check their website before travelling.
On the subject of parkrun, Claire D and Pauline both braved the cold weather on Saturday - and Claire was only 4 seconds off her PB!

Jess has found a fab sounding run for the 3rd Jan at Somerley which has options for 5K or 10K. It's a lovely location so could be a great start to 2011.

Runs in December - all as usual except:
  • Tuesday 14th December - cancelled (office xmas party)
  • Monday 27th December - cancelled
  • Tuesday 28th December - Mince Pie run at 2:30pm from my house, no evening runs
This week's runs (Monday only):
Mon 7pm: 6.10km in 40:08 506 calories
Mon 8pm: 6.47km in 44:11 537 calories

See you on Mon/Tue - do check the blog first because if snow forces cancellation, I will post here by midday.

Congratulations to all WRN runners today! Karen beat me by 6 seconds at 56:47, Jayne did a storming 57:47, Kirsty did 58:18, Pauline and Clare came in together at 65:50 and 65:51 and Angela finished in 71:17. Fantastic!

Race for Life 2010 - WRN link up

Women's Running Network is linking up with Race for Life this year - and I'm hoping to get us involved with both the Winchester and Southampton events.
Eastleigh WRN will be providing training programmes timed perfectly for these events - and the link will hopefully result in some publicity. I'm planning to run 2 programmes - one for absolute beginners and one for "re-runners" - those who've run the event in the past but who are feeling a little rusty & would appreciate some support and motivation in preparing this year.

It will be brilliant to see Eastleigh WRN runners taking part. Dates are:
13th June Winchester
11th July Southampton

If you are able to volunteer to help at either event for marshalling, stewarding or other volunteer type stuff, do let me know. I've volunteered for Winchester (will be on hols in July though so can't do Southampton). If we provide some volunteering support, we can have marketing material distributed at the events.

I'm really pleased about the link up - it's the Race for Life that got me running in the first place & it's an amazing event for a very good cause.

Many congratulations!

Well done to Pauline, Kellie and Lisa - all took part in the Hursley cross country event at the weekend. I've heard that Pauline & Kellie completed the 10K really well - and Lisa finished the 5k with aplomb.

Well done to Louise on her first 5k on Tuesday - and to Julie for a PB 5K last Tuesday.

So impressed!

Anyway, times etc for this week:
  • Monday Advanced: 6.19km in 42:29
  • Monday Standard: 5km in 37:39
  • Tuesday Standard: 5.19km in 43:27

Races

The Cancer Research 10K we were discussing tonight is on 11th October at Beaulieu. It's not a difficult course - but there is quite a bit of grass and off road (we can train for that!). It's also not the cheapest of events - but the fee does include a t-shirt. I'm happy to give it a go if anyone else is.

An alternative is the Hursley 10k and 5K - both on Sunday 27th September. As well as being closer and cheaper to enter, this does have the benefit of flexibility in sponsorship - we can choose our own charity (or charities). Any views???

I'm happy to add Just Giving links to this blog btw in order to help boost your fundraising for these or any other races.

WRN AGM

This is on Saturday 20th June, 11am at Salisbury City Football Club. £20 to attend that includes a 5K run (multi terrain, goody bag & medal!), lunch, guest speaker Sam Murphy (who's written some excellent books on running) and a workshop. And the AGM bit!
I'm cheesed off that I can't make it (will still be in Canada) as it sounds like a good day!
